Does Bacteriostatic Water Need to Be Refrigerated?

Short answer: no, not while it is sealed. A closed bottle of bacteriostatic water is fine at room temperature. Once you open it, use it within 28 days. Putting it in the fridge after that is optional. The part that really does need the fridge is your mixed peptide, not the plain water.

What is bacteriostatic water?

It is water with a tiny bit of benzyl alcohol in it. That small bit keeps germs from growing. That is why you can poke the same bottle more than once. It is the water people use to mix a peptide.

Before you open it: room temp is fine

A sealed bottle does not need the fridge. Keep it at room temperature. That means a normal room. Not hot, not in the sun. The company that makes it gives a range. Store it around 68 to 77 degrees F. So a shelf or a drawer works fine.

After you open it: use it in 28 days

The moment you poke the top with a needle, a clock starts. Use the bottle within 28 days. After that, throw it out.

Do you have to put it in the fridge once it is open? Not really. Room temp is still okay. But cold does not hurt it, so a lot of people keep it in the fridge to be safe. That is a fine habit. Just keep it clean and away from heat.

The part that DOES need the fridge

Here is what people mix up.

The plain water is easy. But the mix is different. Once you add the water to the peptide powder, that vial should go in the fridge. Keep it cold, about 2 to 8 degrees C. That is normal fridge cold. Mixed with bacteriostatic water, it usually stays good for a few weeks.

So the simple way to remember it: the water can sit out, but the mix goes in the fridge.

One big “do not”: no freezer

Do not put your mixed peptide in the freezer.

Freezing it and then letting it thaw can break the peptide. That makes it weaker. The fridge is right. The freezer is not.
